Southaven and Olive Branch are Mississippi. Memphis warehouses are Tennessee. Write the city and the state on the rate con before you request a permit. Then match the MC to L&I.

Gulf miles on I-10 can look like Louisiana or Alabama work. They are still Mississippi until the line. Do not cover them on a Louisiana DOTD or Alabama ALDOT PDF. Call the census telephone. A Jackson MS cell is not Jackson TN.

Inland machinery and forest products still need Subpart I securement and MDOT when over legal. I-10 and I-20 construction is a route, not an MC. Re-open L&I the morning of pickup. Short-notice Gulf covers are where stale PDFs get reused.

FMCSA vs Mississippi

An Active FMCSA property MC is interstate operating authority. It is not a Mississippi oversize permit, not IRP, not IFTA, and not intrastate authority. If this load never leaves Mississippi, ask whether they have the state credential — and still match legal name on L&I if an MC is on the rate con.

As of September 2026, table 1 to 49 CFR 387.9 still lists $750,000, $1,000,000, and $5,000,000. The January 16, 2026 change is broker/freight-forwarder BMC-84/85 at $75,000 — your house, not the truck. The March 2026 FMCSA notice still says: do not buy or sell a USDOT or MC outside a real corporate deal.

UCR is a separate annual filing. It is not BMC-91 and not a MS OS/OW permit. Confirm UCR on the national UCR site if your process requires it. Then come back to L&I for the truck.

Mississippi permits and credentials

Mississippi OS/OW is MDOT. Gulf and inland routes still need the Mississippi permit when over legal.

Mississippi IRP/IFTA is DOR. Federal filings stay on L&I.

Ask which legal entity holds the MDOT permit. Neighbor-state screenshots from Tennessee, Louisiana, or Alabama do not cover Mississippi miles. Attach the current MDOT permit to the load file.
