Match Charleston West Virginia, not Charleston South Carolina. Then match the MC to L&I. A coal or timber load-board tag is not WVDOT OS/OW.

Posted bridges and mountain routes can stop a truck that is legal on a neighboring state’s paper. Ask the route. Write it. An Active MC does not waive a posted WV bridge. Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, or Kentucky paper does not cover West Virginia miles.

Call the census telephone. A Charleston WV dispatcher LLC must still match L&I. Coal-haul rules and timber dimensions are West Virginia problems. They are not 49 CFR 387.9.

FMCSA vs West Virginia

An Active FMCSA property MC is interstate operating authority. It is not a West Virginia oversize permit, not IRP, not IFTA, and not intrastate authority. If this load never leaves West Virginia, ask whether they have the state credential — and still match legal name on L&I if an MC is on the rate con.

As of September 2026, table 1 to 49 CFR 387.9 still lists $750,000, $1,000,000, and $5,000,000. The January 16, 2026 change is broker/freight-forwarder BMC-84/85 at $75,000 — your house, not the truck. The March 2026 FMCSA notice still says: do not buy or sell a USDOT or MC outside a real corporate deal.

UCR is a separate annual filing. It is not BMC-91 and not a WV OS/OW permit. Confirm UCR on the national UCR site if your process requires it. Then come back to L&I for the truck.

West Virginia permits and credentials

West Virginia OS/OW is WVDOT. Coal, timber, and mountain routes still need the WV permit.

West Virginia IRP/IFTA is DMV. Federal filings stay on L&I.

Attach the WVDOT permit for West Virginia miles. Write the route if a posted bridge is on the path. Neighbor-state paper does not cover WV miles.
