CTDOT OS/OW
Connecticut oversize is CTDOT. Short miles still need the CT permit when over legal in CT.
Tri-state paper
MassDOT or NYSDOT screenshots do not cover Connecticut miles.
Connecticut DMV
IRP and IFTA sit with DMV. Confirm the USDOT on L&I before you talk credentials.
49 CFR 387.9
Short miles do not lower federal BI&PD. Confirm L&I the day of cover.

short miles, three permit offices

Tri-state work is still one MC, then three permit offices if the piece is over legal in each state. Write which miles are Connecticut. Then match the MC to L&I. Do not collapse CTDOT, MassDOT, and NYSDOT into one PDF.

A Greenwich or Stamford dispatcher LLC must still match the legal name on L&I. Extra cells can conference the office. They cannot skip the census telephone. I-95 construction is a route, not an FMCSA cargo code.

Intrastate Connecticut is not an FMCSA MC. If the load never leaves Connecticut, ask the state credential. If it leaves, you need interstate authority on the docket you book. Re-open L&I the morning of pickup.

FMCSA vs Connecticut

An Active FMCSA property MC is interstate operating authority. It is not a Connecticut oversize permit, not IRP, not IFTA, and not intrastate authority. If this load never leaves Connecticut, ask whether they have the state credential — and still match legal name on L&I if an MC is on the rate con.

As of September 2026, table 1 to 49 CFR 387.9 still lists $750,000, $1,000,000, and $5,000,000. The January 16, 2026 change is broker/freight-forwarder BMC-84/85 at $75,000 — your house, not the truck. The March 2026 FMCSA notice still says: do not buy or sell a USDOT or MC outside a real corporate deal.

UCR is a separate annual filing. It is not BMC-91 and not a CT OS/OW permit. Confirm UCR on the national UCR site if your process requires it. Then come back to L&I for the truck.

Connecticut permits and credentials

Connecticut OS/OW is CTDOT. Tri-state work still needs the CT permit when the load is over legal in CT.

CT IRP/IFTA sits with DMV. Confirm the USDOT on L&I before you talk credentials.

Attach the CTDOT permit for Connecticut miles. Tri-state work needs the other states too. Do not treat a New York or Massachusetts screenshot as Connecticut permission.

first-touch in Connecticut

  • Which miles on this cover are actually in Connecticut?
  • Do legal name, USDOT, and MC on the rate con match L&I?
  • If oversize, is a CTDOT permit in hand for those Connecticut miles?
  • Does the census telephone reach this motor carrier, not a Greenwich dispatch brand?
  • If the load also runs Massachusetts or New York, are those permits separate?

fail closed

  • Connecticut miles covered on MassDOT or NYSDOT paper only.
  • Greenwich dispatcher LLC on the rate con that does not match L&I.
  • Oversize Connecticut miles with no CTDOT permit.
  • Census phone will not state the DOT.

direct answers

Can I cover Connecticut miles on a MassDOT permit only?
No. MassDOT covers Massachusetts. Connecticut oversize is CTDOT. Confirm L&I, then CTDOT for CT miles.
Does a Greenwich dispatcher LLC replace the census telephone?
No. The rate con names a legal person. Call the number on SAFER. Match Inc versus LLC on L&I.
Do short Connecticut miles skip interstate authority?
Only if the shipment never leaves Connecticut and they have the state credential. Plenty of CT pickups are in New York by supper. Read the docket.
