MA desk
massachusetts carrier desk.
Massachusetts cover is I-90, I-93, I-95, and Boston city truck rules on top of MassDOT. A Boston dispatcher cell is not the census telephone. Mass Pike and MassDOT OS/OW are not one screenshot. Confirm L&I first, then the city route if this delivery is inside Boston.
desks for this cover
- MassDOT OS/OW
- Massachusetts oversize is MassDOT. City restrictions in Boston are extra, not instead of MassDOT.
- Mass Pike
- Pike stamps and MassDOT OS/OW are not one screenshot.
- Massachusetts RMV
- IRP sits with RMV. FMCSA BMC-91 is still L&I.
- 49 CFR 387.9
- Boston congestion does not change federal BI&PD floors. Confirm L&I the day of cover.
city rules sit on top of massdot
Boston truck routes, time windows, and some local restrictions can stop a truck that is legal on MassDOT paper. Ask the office which route they will run. Write it. An Active MC does not waive a banned city street.
Tri-state work still needs a Massachusetts permit when the load is over legal in Massachusetts. CTDOT or NYSDOT paper does not cover those miles. Call the census telephone. A Greenwich or Providence dispatcher LLC on a Boston delivery is a name-match problem.
Mass Pike stamps and MassDOT oversize are not interchangeable. If the route uses both, ask for both. Re-open L&I the morning of pickup. Short-lived MCs cluster on cheap New England van lanes.

FMCSA vs Massachusetts
An Active FMCSA property MC is interstate operating authority. It is not a Massachusetts oversize permit, not IRP, not IFTA, and not intrastate authority. If this load never leaves Massachusetts, ask whether they have the state credential — and still match legal name on L&I if an MC is on the rate con.
As of September 2026, table 1 to 49 CFR 387.9 still lists $750,000, $1,000,000, and $5,000,000. The January 16, 2026 change is broker/freight-forwarder BMC-84/85 at $75,000 — your house, not the truck. The March 2026 FMCSA notice still says: do not buy or sell a USDOT or MC outside a real corporate deal.
UCR is a separate annual filing. It is not BMC-91 and not a MA OS/OW permit. Confirm UCR on the national UCR site if your process requires it. Then come back to L&I for the truck.
Massachusetts permits and credentials
Massachusetts OS/OW is MassDOT. City restrictions in Boston are extra, not instead of MassDOT.
Massachusetts IRP sits with RMV. FMCSA BMC-91 is still L&I.
Attach the MassDOT permit for Massachusetts miles. If Boston local rules apply, write the route. Neighbor-state paper from CTDOT or NYSDOT does not cover Massachusetts miles.
first-touch in Massachusetts
- Do legal name, USDOT, and MC on the rate con match L&I?
- If this delivery is in Boston, can this truck legally run the city truck route?
- If oversize, is MassDOT in hand, and the Pike if the route uses it?
- Does the census telephone reach this motor carrier, not a Boston dispatcher cell?
- If the load continues into Connecticut or New York, whose permit covers those miles?
fail closed
- Office cannot name a legal Boston truck route for this delivery.
- Mass Pike and MassDOT collapsed into one screenshot on an oversize move.
- Connecticut or New York miles covered on MassDOT paper only.
- Name mismatch or census phone that will not state the DOT.
direct answers
- Does MassDOT OS/OW include Boston city truck rules?
- No. City restrictions sit on top of MassDOT. A truck can be legal on state paper and still be the wrong route in Boston.
- Is a Mass Pike screenshot the MassDOT permit?
- Not automatically. Pike and MassDOT oversize are different stamps when the route uses both. Ask for both.
- Does a Boston cell replace the census telephone?
- No. Call the number on SAFER. Extra cells can conference the office. They cannot skip L&I.
